While They Differ on Outcome, Rockström and McPherson Have Similar Warnings

Johan Rockström said in an Aug 15, 2024 YouTube with 90,789 views in the first day, “The Tipping Points of Climate Change — and Where We Stand | Johan Rockström | TED,” “We are seriously running out of time [before exceeding our ‘remaining carbon budget’ that will trigger more catastrophic effects]. [ . . . . ] I can tell you there are two main messages: Message 1: Buckle up. [ . . . . ] 2023, the warmest year on record, will be looked back upon as a mild year. Message 2: Why would the planet come back to 1.5 [C] after overshoot? Well, the answer is very simple. The health of the planet must be kept intact.”

Guy McPherson said in a Feb 24, 2022 YouTube (from a 2015 TV Episode) “National Geographic: Bill Nye’s Climate Meltdown with Guy McPherson & Arnold Schwarzenegger HD,” “Climate change is outstripping the ability of organisms to adapt. They can not adapt quickly enough. So, it’s not that we will die because we’re not an adaptable species. We are. The problem is all the other organisms that we depend upon for our lives for things like food are going to die. I can’t imagine there will be a human being on the planet in 2030.”

The film scene that comes to mind is “Das Boot: Situation Report.” It’s a stunning scene from a great film, and a scene ending that is fading fast for us if Rockström is right, and long gone if McPherson is.
