Climate Policy Analyst David Spratt vs. COP30

The COP30 sacrifice zone appears to be everywhere beyond their warped imaginations. While Bill Gates may have meant well, he would have been wise to consult David Spratt before sending his Oct 28, 2025 “Three tough truths about climate” to COP30.

Australian David Spratt, Research Director, Breakthrough National Centre for Climate Restoration is similar to climate scientist Kevin Anderson regarding necessary truth-telling. I respected how Spratt made shocking-but-true points in a recent Science Talk video hosted by Dr. Muhammad Ittefaq, a Senior Research Scientist at Harvard University, and professor at James Madison University with a background that includes Technical University of Ilmenau in Germany, and University of the Punjab in Pakistan.

For example, Spratt said at 33:53 on the YouTube timeline, “They [at COP conferences] have a [weak] morality about policy making that they would never exercise in their personal lives.” He continued at 35:01, “Every fossil fuel license is a death certificate for a few hundred thousand or a few million people.” At 38:52 he added, “The elite don’t, or don’t want to get [understand] the problem. I mean the discussion at COPs, [and] at IPCC, [ . . . ] is delusional.”

Specifically, at 13:40 Spratt noted, “For example, at Paris in international policy making fora they kept on saying net zero by 2050 and that was based on the models which said we’d have 1.5 by 2040. Now, we’ve got 1.5 by 2025, 15 years early, so if they were saying net zero [by] 2050, logically they today should be saying net zero 2035 because we’ve lost 15 years out of the system but they don’t. So this is the disconnection between science and politics.”

Spratt continued, “I mean I guess the other thing is about risk. For example, I mean it’s really clear and some of the world’s leading scientists say we are heading [for, and if] we get to, 3 degrees [Celsius above year 1850 baseline] we’re heading towards civilizational collapse.”

At 19:50 he noted, “If the AMOC [Atlantic meridional overturning circulation] slows [enough] you’ll have cold periods in Scandinavia of minus 40 [minus 40 Fahrenheit] to [minus] 50 [ minus 58 Fahrenheit] degrees. I mean research scientists say agriculture will be nonviable in Ireland and the U K, and northwestern Europe.”
